Doula Services

What is a Doula?

A doula provides continuous, unbiased, non-medical support before, during, and in the hours after labor. They help you make informed choices about the birth you desire, and advocate for those choices to be respected. We prepare for the birth together, discussing positioning options, comfort measures and pain coping techniques, breathing, massage, and much more. Whether you are planning a home or birthing center birth, or a hospital birth, a doula will be there to support your needs.

Why do I need a Doula?

It is known that the presence of a doula helps to decrease the length of labor and reduces the risk of unnecessary interventions. We provide constant emotional and practical support to you AND your partner, working together- not to replace your partner, but to ensure a unique experience for everyone.

"Published data indicate that one of the most effective tools to improve labor and delivery outcomes is the continuous presence of support personnel, such as a doula." - American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), 2014

Prenatal Sessions

Education- You don't know what you don't know. It is important to know your options, to be able to give informed consent, and be the navigator, instead of the passenger, in this journey of birth. Here, we will discuss the outline of your ideal experience and consider the unexpected as well. (This session is included in all packages)

Comfort Measures- In times of discomfort or challenge, how do you cope? In this session we will identify your threshold and learn methods that comfort and ease your journey around the unknown. Things such as breathing techniques, distraction methods, massage, aromatherapy, positioning and movement are useful tools you can take with you even after your experience. (This session is included in all packages)

Health and Wellbeing- Your body is no longer yours and yours alone. It is a shared space. A space where you can begin to nourish and love your baby even before birth. What you do now matters. In this session we will talk about the benefits of diet, lifestyle, stress management, and physical activity. We will demonstrate a few prenatal yoga poses that you can practice at home.

Art Therapy- Art is a wonderful way to express our deepest thoughts and feelings. You might even be surprised at your creation and learn underlying root causes of your emotions. Art can help you break through barriers you didn't know existed. There are many fun birth related art exercises we can choose from!

Post Prep- Maybe you're not afraid of birth and labor at all- you're a warrior! What comes after can be a source a great overwhelm. Let this session ease your mind about postpartum care of self and baby. We will practice baby bath time, swaddling, baby care, self care, and address any other questions you may have.

Postpartum Visit- This visit will be scheduled within the week after you are home and settled in. We will revisit your birth through story telling. Self care and naps encouraged! (This session is included in all packages)
